Our
Ridgebacks |
|
Our Ridgeback saga began in 1984 when we purchased a female Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy. Being familiar with the breed from friends who had several Ridgebacks in the late 1960’s, we felt the breed would make a wonderful companion and a dog to enjoy our farming and outdoors activities. When Sheeba was 2 years old, we were introduced to the sport of conformation dog shows. Nine shows later, Sheeba was a conformation champion! Having purchased a male puppy in the summer of 1986, we began to show him in conformation as well. At the tender age of 11 months, Rhodie became a conformation champion. Wishing to continue in dog showing, we began a specials career for Rhodie. In 1987 and 1988, Rhodie achieved national ranking in the top 25 Ridgebacks being shown for those years. Because of the quality and lovely temperment of Sheeba and Rhodie, we determined to begin our kennel and breeding program with a breeding of the two. This pair produced only one litter, with 1 champion female, Katie. The other puppies went to loving companion homes, several of whom still continue to stay in touch with us. Katie produced two litters for us, with 2 champions. In addition, she achieved a Companion Dog title in obedience, winning top scoring Ridgeback at her last qualifying show. Our Ridgeback legacy continues through a Katie daughter, Kayla, who has produced 5 champions to date , earning her the distinction of Award of Merit Dam from the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of the US. Most recently, a Kayla daughter, Molly, takes up the Willmar Kennel banner with a litter born in November 2003. We are dedicated to producing a calm, loving, and stable temperament Ridgeback which has no genetic health problems and conforms to the breed standard in all respects. We do not breed often, preferring to do so only for the continuation of our kennel and to allow a quality dog to contribute their exceptional attributes to the gene pool.
All of our Ridgebacks are OFA certified. |
